Ethics in medicine

During class on Tuesday there was a large discussion on ethics in the medical world.  Obviously it is hard to compare medical ethics from the time of Dr. Sims to modern day.  However, the fact that Sim's coworkers wouldn't work with him either shows that he was clearly using procedures that other medical officials at the time did not condone.  In addition, because he did not have any other medical partners, Sims was forced to drug his patients with morpheme so that they would be willing to help with the operations on the other girls.  The fact that he drugged the girls to coerce them into doing what he wants is an ethic that was not ok back then and still is not today.  All in all, Sim's actions proved unethical not only today but also back then.  With that said, that does not mean that the contributions Sim's made to the medical field were not extremely important because they were but I do believe he could have found these procedures in a more humane way which included pain medicine and anesthesia
