Julia Pastrana

One of the articles that we read for today was about Julia Pastrana. It dealt with the life of Julia Pastrana and it also descirbed what she looked like and how she married her manager. The article also dealt with the fact that even after her death she was continued to be looked at but it stated that it was for scientific purposes and even after her death she continued to be on display. One way that this relates to today's world was an example that we went over in class and that was the fact that we continue to put "freaks" on display even after they are dead and we claim it is for scientific purposes for example they are creating a model of the elephant man so that it moves and talks like he did. Another way that this relates to today's world is that fact that Julia might have been forced into her marriage because she may have felt that she couldnt have done any better than her manager. This is relevant today because people still do this who have low self-esteem and may find themselves in a relationship just because they may feel that they wont find anything better or that they deserve better.
