After reading the articles on Julia Pastrana, I was a little confused with how I felt on the matter. This lady was a "freak" yet had characteristics of an actual person. She established some control over her life because she could speak many languages and play the guitar. She could choose to learn languages and learn how to play the guitar. When she was on display, she would entertain her audiences and they would stare at her abnormal appearance. I was really interested during discussion when we started talking about Julia Pastrana in today's world. I agree that she would have a reality television show. I think that this reality television show would be positive because people could see that even with a disability, a person can still live a normal life. I think it would also be negative. I think it would be negative because it would cause people to stare at her and focus some negative energy on her. So far these discussions have really made interested in the definitions of normalcy and deviance.
