Venus by any other name

When I saw the cartoon of the Hottentot Venus in class I swiftly realized that the European male fascination with unusual female configurations had nothing to do with the Victorian Age, Expansionism or any recent development.   This figure is called the Venus of Willendorf and is a piece of Neolithic art.  Apparently European males have a long history of this type of fascination.
